Overview
The League of Women Voters was founded on the principle that people should play a role in our democracy. As a grassroots organization that empowers voters and defend democracy through advocacy, education, and ligation at the local, state, and national levels, we know every community across the country looks and comes together differently.
It's no secret that our communities have changed and developed differently since 2020. As League members who work directly in our communities, we are adapting our program work to accomplish our mission, but we know it will come with challenges.
To ensure we can accomplish our mission while respecting each League's capacity and addressing the unique organizing challenges in our communities, the League of Women Voters US has been equipping local and state Leagues across the country with our very own LWV-branded digital relational organizing platform called League In Action, powered by OutreachCircle.
What is League In Action?
League In Action is a digital platform where anyone who believes in our mission and values at a click of a button can directly connect and take action on issues impacting their communities on the local, state, or national level. For example, League In Action supporters can:
- Received personalized push notifications with the latest updates and calls to action
- Use the League In Action app version to scroll and take action on whatever they care about wherever and wherever they want with LWV (no more digging through emails to find a meeting link/timely information)
- Quickly and seamlessly reach out to their friends and family about important information and events with customizable templates via their preferred method of contact (text, email, app messages)
League In Action is not only easy and convenient for committed supporters who want to empower voters and defend democracy, but it's easy and convenient for local and state Leagues to maximize their on-the-ground organizing strategy with a digital organizing strategy. League In Action powered by OutreachCircle makes it simple for Leagues to recruit, engage, and activate community members while being able to track and manage their efforts every step of the way! League In Action is now available to every single League free of charge from June 2020 to July 2024.
Technology Features
Since 2020 local and state Leagues have been able to incorporate OutreachCircle technology not only to recruit and engage new community members but also to engage at a deeper level with existing LWV members. Here are a few ways Leagues are using OutreachCircle to meet their goals:
Elections
- Created up-to-date election content from preexisting sources and resources (LWV websites, VOTE411, governmental websites) for voters to easily access.
- Used push notifications, texts, and emails, for elections reminders, GOTV messages, and event invites
- Used relational actions to allow supporters to share LWV voter guides with their network while being able to track and know how many new individuals were accessing the voter guide.
- Used P2P texting action to text hundreds of thousands of voters about important deadlines, registering to vote, and creating a voting plan
Legislative Sessions
- Created an up-to-date platform (app/desktop) with all the latest news about their legislative sessions, from which bills LWV will be submitting testimony to amplify to which bills are coming up for a vote etc.
- Used relational actions to leverage existing LWV action alerts for supporter's networks to contact their elected representatives
- Used direct action function for supporters to contact their elected officials on specific legislation
Membership Recruitment, Management, & Retention
- Used push notifications and summary League In Action emails to reduce LWV email fatigue by creating a space where LWV members could find everything they need to volunteer and take action with their League
- Used affinity and p2p texting technology to contact members with timely information
- Used the League In Action app to onboard new LWV members through one easy process to ensure all new LWV members have the same smooth onboarding process
- Created customized digital ladders of engagement to turn passive LWV supporters into LWV members and leadership

What’s the difference between OutreachCircle and League In Action?
League In Action app uses OutreachCircle technology. League In Action is simply an enhanced LWV experience where supporters can only follow other League accounts.
If you are already an OutreachCircle user and would like an LWV supporter experience, simply download League In Action in your app store and login in with the same login information as you used for OutreachCircle.
Do I have to download League In Action as an OutreachCircle user?
No, downloading League In Action is optional.
Can League In Action be accessed via desktop?
No, League In Action is an LWV app-branded experience. If you would like to follow your League and take action while using a desktop, please use outreachcircle.com.
